Organization change; refers to the adoption of new behavior
by organization so as to increase the
organizational effectiveness for achieving its objective. According to
kurnt lawns who were introduced three stage of organization change theory on
(1951) which are more relevant to nowadays. These stages include unfreezing,
moving (changing) and refreezing. Thus unfreezing is the first stage in
organization change which involves preparing individual in an organization to
accept that change is necessary. Moving (varying) these are second stage which involves
a shifting in behavior of organization by modifying system, process, technology
and people. And last stage are Refreezing which involve action to derive for
change and facilitate the institutional process of the change even a day to day
routine of the organization. So a school as organization system adopts this
stage in order to improve the education performance. Due to these stage which
was used with different organization so as to adopt change ,there following
below are contribution of lewins three stage of organization change which involve strength and weakness .By
starting with strength as follows.
It help all individual in organization to understand the
change so as to achieve the organization goals; Due to unfreezing stage it
enable everyone in a certain organization like school which include head of
school, all teacher, school board, and students understand through elaborating
more about what change concern, in order to make every one being aware about
that change so as to reduce resistance change. For example the head of school
want to make a change about teaching method which is participatory method. So
head of school must elaborate more about what the meaning, purpose and way to
follows in order to make sure that everyone understands in order to accept and
to bring development.
It helps organization to archive their goals. Through these
three stage of organization change it enable a school to archive their goals by
planning, organizing, and adapting the change so as to drive the organization
goals. For example in school there is different change adapted especially at
university which are using computer, and projector as the way to facilitate learning
process so through these change enable school to get more information and tend
to adopt new technological change for
the purpose of achieving their goals.
It leads to solve the problem facing organization. The change
which was tended to adopted by different organization it help to solve the problem
facing the organization and improving more quality and quantity of production. For
example education system in Tanzania tends to adopt the technological process
as the way of improving the rate of performance and increase the competition of
education in world wide. Also to increase the science teacher among the school
so as to increase the rate of performance in science subject in school. Hence
through these change enables to reduce and solve the problem that was exist.
There following below are weakness caused by lewins three stage of organization
change as follow.
It lead to rise of conflict among the people in organization,
these occur when individual are forced to change whether by reward or punishment
, such situation when happen it create misunderstanding among the organization
and lead to low rate of performance in organization. For example when the head
of school introduce some opinion like to make donation for all staff member in
order to help student to perform well but some other teacher ignore these
opinion because of strong reason so it create misunderstanding between head of
school and it subordinate.(Judson,A.1991)
It lead to identification and internalization, identification
occur when individual recognize one among of various model provided in the
environment that is most suitable to their personality. And
internationalization occur when individual are forced to encounter a situation
that call a new behavior, so through these situation the change its difficult
to be adopted because people having character of returning to traditional one
especially in education system in Tanzania through introducing DIVISION and GPA in form four results (Kambuga,2013)
All in all there are following above are the contribution of
lawns three stage of organization change which based on education system, so as
organization should use these stage effectively during the change was needed by
providing information to all member in organization in order to reduce resistance
force about that change and increase in provision of services which are quality
especially in school performance.
